I am indirectly short the market by holding securities that do well in down markets and shorting some high beta names. I do have most of my money on the long side, though - it just works out that I make money on down days.

Anyone that seriously gives you a projected low in the Dow right now is either crazy, ignorant, or Jesus. Too much volatility, too much uncertainty, too much macro junk going on. If the Dow hit 10,500 on August 1, and a nuclear bomb went off in downtown NY (not out of the question by any means), the dow would fall right through 10k.

A good strategy is to go long volatility, since it's fairly certain we'll see quite a bit of volatility over at least the next month or so.

I'm not sure Eagles. But I'm sure your question would reach more than 600 people on here. So hopefully some of them can give you a decent answer as i know nothing about the stock market unfortunately. When are you going to get a new Avatar?
Rockstar Toby prompted my other question BTW. Pretty hot for an Aussie guy with a dumb accent!
