Strange that you should ask this question. Just by coincidence, I was visiting Paris about 9 years ago and was sitting at an enchanting outdoor cafe, enjoying the ambiance of the romantic city while sipping a latte. There were this group of mimes, entertaining the patrons with a dazzling array of miming that had the crowd mesmerized.
Now, normally I find mimes to be a little irritating, but this group was doing things that I've never seen before. They were re-enacting the history of the bible, verse by verse. It got me to thinking that maybe mimes have gotten a "bum rap". I started gesturing to some of the mimes, like I was jerking off. This was just to show my feelings about Matthew V.14.2. I never liked this particular passage and was showing my displeasure. When the mimes moved to Luke V.7.2 I beamed a smile and gave the universal "thumbs up". After the show, which must have lasted 11 hours....the crowd cheered wildly.
The group of mimes joined me to watch the sunset, some with tears flowing down their mascara covered faces, at the sheer beauty of the French skyline. I sat contently, feeling very much a part of their closed community for that brief moment.
As I learned their secret language, we silently talked for several hours. The ring leader, Gaston, discussed his passion for God, wildy and frantically moving about, while Simone, his wife, stared proudly. Julien was the quiet one, not giving of himself. Finally, as the night closed to an end, he got up and pretended to be trying to escape from a box. I interpreted this to mean he felt trapped by society. When I did the same thing, he attempted to give me a huge french kiss, which made me feel awkward at his inappropriate advances, but....when in Rome....
I have to admit that evening gave me a newfound respect of all things related to mimes. Their astounding views of religion and politics was an eye opener.

No, they're even more weird than clowns, but just as easy to have a discussion with (I guess).
