I had a job interview in person a couple of weeks ago that went really well. I followed it up with a call and thank you a week later. It's now the second week since the interview and I haven't heard back. The interview went well and I was told they would be in touch soon.

My question is: I don't want to seem over eager...how long should I wait to inquire on the status of the position?

A week or two after the interview is the right interval to wait. The people have to make a decision, 2 weeks will allow that to happen in any reasonable organization.

Any SOONER than that, and you will be seen to be an eager beaver or worse, and later than that will tend to indicate an indifference on YOUR part.

I think it's appropriate to call now that it's been two weeks since your interview, just to see if the position has been filled. If it has, move on to the next interview. If not, speak with Human Resources and mention how interested you are in the position!

At one time, I had over 100 applicants for a single position. The time to return a call is dependent on the position you've applied for. If this is sales, for example, you need to be a bit more on the aggressive side - call ASAP. If you would like to give me a little more info, I'd be glad to give you some tips.

NEVER call a company after your interview, unless they say to call them. i used to call about a week after my interviews, and finally one personell mgr told me that she was on her list to call and offer a position to, but by being to hastey, i blew it. she also informeed me that employers, if they like you in the interview, will tell you to call back, and when.
you may not be familiar with the phrase "don't call us, we'l call you". but take heed, wait it out.
