Bellamy Brothers
The Bellamy Brothers Old Hippie Lyrics
He turned 35 last Sunday
In his hair he found some gray
But he still ain't changed his lifestyle
He likes it better the old way.
So he grows a little garden
In the backyard by the fence
He's consuming what he's growing
Nowadays in self defense
He gets out there in the twilight zone
Sometimes when it just don't make no sense.
He gets off on country music
'Cause disco left him cold
And he's got young friends and a new way
But he's just to frickin old.
And he dreams at night of Woodstock
And the day John Lennon died
How the music made him happy
And the silence made him cry
Yeah, he thinks of John sometimes
And he has to wonder why.
Chorus:
'Cause he's an old hippie
And he don't know what to do
Should he hang on to the old
Should he grab on to the new.
He's and old hippie
This new life is just a bust
He ain't trying to change nobody
He's just trying real hard to adjust.
He was sure back in the sixties
That everyone was hip
Then they sent him off to Vietnam
On his senior trip.
And they forced him to become a man
While he was still a boy
And behind each wave of tragedy
He waited for the joy
Now this world may change around him
But he just can't change no more.
Chorus:
'Cause he's an old hippie
And he don't know what to do
Should he hang on to the old
Should he grab on to the new.
He's and old hippie
This new life is just a bust
He ain't trying to change nobody
He's just trying real hard to adjust.
Well, he stays away a lot now
From the parties and the clubs
And he's thinking while he's jogging round
Sure is glad he quit the hard drugs.
'Cause him and his kind
Get more endangered everyday
And pretty soon the species
Will just up and fade away
Like the smoke from that torpedo
Just up and fade away.
Chorus:
'Cause he's an old hippie
And he don't know what to do
Should he hang on to the old
Should he grab on to the new.
He's and old hippie
This new life is just a bust
He ain't trying to change nobody
He's just trying real hard to adjust.
Yeah, he ain't trying to change nobody
He's just trying real hard to adjust...

I don't listen to country music, so I don't know. I'd like to find out because I am the same way!
dress and look pretty much the same as I did in the 60's and early 70's( it drives both of my sisters nuts)
I was so glad when the "hippie' look came back in the 80"s!
My sisters styles never became popular again. Look how many generations are still enjoying classic rock!
Hippies were treated like dirt! If "people" had listened to us back in the day, we wouldn't have as many problems with the ozone layer, landfills, and other air/water pollutants. I was involved with making Earth Day (and Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday a holiday) a reality. I was also called a beatnik before I was ever called a "dirty" hippie.( and I NEVER spit on anybody! it wasn't their fault that they were drafted-I was against the war and the draft, not against the poor souls that were sent to do the governments dirty work where we had no business being! Gee, sounds like the case we're currently in, but not only do we have no business being there, we were sent in under complete falseness and we (actually, some of us) obviously are still being tricked by the asshole! We are no longer allowed to peacefully voice our opinions either. What's next???_ Why have we not gotten bin Laden??? Why did we have to go after the butt hole that tried to have our presidents father assassinated years ago? I'd say that is a personal matter that should not be the reason our sons and daughters are dying for!!!
Whew, glad to get that off my chest!
My prayers are with our troops and their families! All these deaths are not worth an attempted attack on one man who didn't even get hurt. We really need to get the one who was responsible for killing thousands, not an unsuccessful attempt on one person for nothing more than a vendetta!

I am not sure about the song, maybe it is by Arlo Guthrie.. Any way I was dancing to the music of an old hippie just a few nights ago in the area of the original Woodstock.. Phil Lesh from the Grateful Dead was ripping it up at a new Ampi-theater built there.. It was special to say the least.. You could feel the ghosts of music in the air as phil resurrested the energy of a bygone era.. It was very special.. 11 years to the day of the last Grateful Dead Concert Played with Jerry..

The song may be Almost Cut My Hair by David Crosby. Here are the lyrics.
Almost cut my hair
It happened just the other day
It was getting kind of long
I could have said it was in my way
But I didn't and I wonder why
I feel like letting my freak flag fly
And I feel like I owe it to someone
Must be because I had the flu for Christmas
And I'm not feeling up to par
It increases my paranoia
Like looking into a mirror and seeing a police car
But I'm not giving in an inch to fear
Cos I promised myself this year
I feel like I owe it to someone
When I finally get myself together
I'm gonna get down in some of that sweet summer weather
I'm going to find a space inside to laugh
Separate the wheat from the chaff
Cos I feel like I owe it, yeah
Said I feel like I owe it, yeah
You know I feel---- like I owe it yeah to someone
