why is it that the money i pay in tax, about 500 dollars every two weeks may some day go to send another family's children to school through grants, but because i pay so much in tax i couldn't afford to send my own children to school? where does my 1000 dollars a month go to, i know that we need schools and roads and the people running the show need to make a living to, but it seems a bit extreem to pay income tax, gas tax, cigeratte tax mortage tax and so on and so forth. if i had to guess i would say about 50-60 percent of my income goes to the government, and i can't think of a whole lot they have done for me. again we have roads to drive on and schools to send our children to, but that's about it, where does it all go? here's some food for thought, teachers where i'm from only make about 35,000 dollars a year, granted they only work 9 months out of the year, but the head of the board of edu brings in about 180,000 dollars a year, why does he need that much. anyone els feel the same

sure we voted for these people, but that doesn't mean we got the one i voted for, that doesn't even matter though, no matter who is in office the amount of tax that we pay probably will never go down, and the national debt will keep on rising, i think of myself as a pretty smart individual, but i can't make any sense of it, for example, when i see things on the news where officals of st. louis county authorize the refacing of a bridge that was perfectly fine before, but becasue they wanted to attract shoppers to a mall it's ok to spend 6 million dollars to do it, i tell you what, put some of that money back in my pocket and i will go shopping with it

here's an idea, if we really wanted the government to listen to us we could organize an exemption date, on a certain date if we could get 80% of the tax payers to claim exemption on their taxes and not start paying them again until the price of gas went down and we got fairly taxed on income they would have to listen, eventually we would have to pay them but if the government didn't have any cash flow for a couple of months i guarantee they would listen to us and something would get done, only problem would be organizing it

It's called "pork- barrell spending" by our elected officials. There's no oversight of their spend thrift ways and bush has never vetoed a single bill that 's come out of this Congress. Vote the bums out! I wish there were term limits.

They "need" all that money because of all the social programs (social security, welfare, funding of schools, which is supposed to be the state's job, etc), the unconstitutional agencies like the EPA, and paying for ridiculous studies like "are people on death row happy?" I'm exaggerating on the last one, of course, but not by much. So it's basically, the more they tax, the more control they have. The really sad thing is that many people and politicians want MORE taxes - that is, they want free universal health care.

Is there pending legislation right now to increase anyone's taxes? And when there is, the top 5% need to be made to cough up a fair share, and those who do not use US citizens for their labor be made to pay higher taxes. I do not mind paying taxes. I do mind having it spent on a war to line the pockets of Bush, Cheney and their buddies.

the fire department, the city workers the road crews the infrastructure to run a country , state and city's are humongous. the city's would be allot filthier and unpleasant with out the taxes to keep it all going. the head of departments get a lot bigger check, but when finger pointing time comes ,they get the blame. they may try to pass the buck, but we all know who's fault things really are.

I heard the government was going to start using Yahoo Answers to manage public services and the war effort. I can't wait, it's going to fix eveything, because from what I can tell, everyone here really knows what they are talking about. Horray for us!

What the politicians don't spend on themselves, the rest goes to pay for services for illegal immigrants, illegitimate children of teenagers, Planned Parenthood (to promote abortion), National Endowment for the Arts to promote pornography & homosexuality, and National Education Assn. to promote the liberal agenda and indoctrinate your children. La Raza- to promote the hispanization of America- private hispanic schools, Liberal "Think" Tanks, anything they can think of to keep from giving your money back to you for your benefit!

Isn't it interesting that one of the leading factors to this government being founded was because of over taxation by the British. And taxation without representation.
