Are you tired of the government being the great equalizer?

Why should the tax burden be greater on the society just to benefit those that have already rejected what was already there?

I would support the government using the funds to send drop-outs to college being used for people who stuck it out and actually graduated.
Second chances?
Sure, if the person swallows their pride and goes back to HIGH SCHOOL and graduates.

The truth be told;every society needs the low wage earning worker, the slacker and the people with no initiative.
why should we keep burning up tax dollars to change them?
I would like to see those that applied themselves all along get the help they really want and need.

I could not agree more, bears and babies!
with the exception of the forcing them into school until graduation.

You know from experience how one unruly person can destroy the learning environment!
I am for permanent expulsion (with no chance to re-enter in another school!) for violent, unruly and abusive students.

I do not support taking one person's problem and giving to another to deal with!
I am also pro corporal punishment.
It worked for 200 years or more, and the lack of it has contributed to the decline of control of the teachers!

Clivencheese, you bring out a very, VERY good point. I had not thought of a case like this. I suppose that there can be a few eceptions or clauses, but I did addrress the way back in, rreturn and finish high school.

In any event, I was talking about FREE schooling for drop outs and I (ME, PERSONALLY) would not be keeping anyone from anything. They would have kept THEMSELVES down by virtue of THEIR choices!

Public dollars do pay for everyone to get an equal education. I don't believe that those same tax dollars should be used for remediation or second chances. To take it a step further, why are we forcing kids to stay in school? They are the ones making it difficult for the ones that want to be there and are actually the drain on educational expenditures.

My thought is to tell people that they will NEVER be eligible for public assistance--subsidized housing, Medicaid, food stamps--or even a driver's license UNTIL they finish high school. At that point, they then have a minimum of skills allowing them to enter the work force and, thus, not needing the accoutrements of public assistance.

If people want to quit school, fine. But, don't become a drain on society.

Problem - if you don't educate some drop out, you're keeping people at the bottom of society without the skills to get out of their position.

My sister is a drop out. Dropped out to care for me when my mom wouldn't when I was a young kid (we're far apart in age). She's nearly done getting her BA after going to community college. She didn't get her GED; CA doesn't require you to in order to go back to college. She works harder than most students because she knows what it's worth.

She's not a slacker because she dropped out. There are MANY drop outs that leave school because of family problems and other reasons. Your statements don't give anyone a chance.

Ja, I am not a fan of supporting STUPIDITY!!!
Every student must be encouraged to stay in High School until GRADUATION Day!
College/University needs to be supported by some "FREE" tuition, books, or something what is related to the major/minor that particular student has in mind!
SingleParents need help in that direction!
