A sex offender is not defined by his or her victim. A sex offender is anyone who has been convicted for committing a sexual offense ... period. It matters not that the victim is a child or an adult.

No I do not think all Sex Offenders should be treated the same. I knew a guy in California who got caught peeing in public while drunk. So women saw it and said he was flashing her he was charged with a sex offense and had to follow the same rules as the rapists and child molesters.

On a side note, I feel most sex offenses are horrible crimes that should be punished severely but i think our society is being ridiculous these days (at least in California). Even after a sex offender has served their full prison sentence they have to register where ever they live, can hardly find a job ( because of liability), and aren't allowed to live in a lot of areas (with in certain distances of schools, and in most apartment complexes).

The way things are now sex offenders have no motivation to change their ways. We should either Lock them up for good, or give them a chance to get their life back.

No, I think that this should be treated on a case by case basis, one example of why is statutory rape. In MO the legal age for sexual consent is 16 years old, so if two kids are dating in high school (one 15 the other 16 or 17) the teenager would still be called a sexual predator by law and have to register as a "child predator" for the rest of their life. I dont think this is anywhere near the crime of someone who example;(molests a child of 4 or 5 years old.) I feel a 17 or 16 year old with a peer is definately not a child predator, they are a child themselves, and the law needs to be examined in some cases. Case by case basis for these crimes would be the only just way to punish/correct/attempt to detour these crimes.

Of course there are gradations of sex offenders like there are gradations of everything else. Pee Wee Herman and Heidi Fleiss are "sex offenders"; so are John Couey and Joseph Duncan (the latter are also murderers, of course.) Anyone who claims that there is no difference between someone who urinated in public, made an obscene phone call or had an underage girlfriend, or someone who abducts and sexually batters and kills a toddler, doesn't have enough holes in their air bubble. Unfortunately the current "sex offender" hysteria doesn't allow this to ever be discussed in rational terms. It's even worse than trying to discuss Communism rationally in the McCarthy era.

No, not all sex offenders are child predators. There are a wide range of sexual sickos out there. And no, I don't think they should all be treated the same. A person who exposes themself to passers-by randomly is not in the same category as someone who rapes a child.

no, i don't. it all depends on their crime. for example, you can technically be a sex offender if you sunbathe naked and get busted for it. so are they child predators? or how about if some 18 year old sleeps with a 17 year old girl who is a month away from being 18 and her parents get pissed and have him arrested. and then they end up happily married with three kids down the road. is he a predator? there are too many things to consider.

Yes, they are all the same. SICK!!! However, I feel they should be punished differently. I think it should be decided by the victim or victim's family just how they should pay. Most of the time the perp does'nt get all they deserve & the victims are'nt satisfied with the sentence given by law.

Yes, they should all receive the same harsh punishment and no special cases should exist for sick people like that. They do not deserve any breaks or lesser punishment for what they did. What they do is WRONG and no child deserves that kind of treatment.
