Generally speaking Republicans are the party of the right (conservative) and Democrats the the party of the left (liberal). However, historically you will find that there are shadings of both conservative and liberal in both parties.

Left wing and right wing come from that the fact that Democrates have their offices in the left wing of the Congressional building, while Republicans have theirs in the right wing of the building.

What the difference between the parties is, I have no clue...

dems think the government should solve every problem and republicans know that big government is the problem.
