URL = Universal Resource Locator.

It is a string of 'address' to uniquely identity a location of a certain resource. Normally used in web environment to identitfy a web page (which is a 'resource'), for example:
www.yahoo.com <----- a URL

Or, it can be used in programming world to uniquely identity a resource such as a database server or the likes, such as :
http://localhost:9080/

Hope it helps!

Universal Resource Locator

It is just a string of characters that a DNS (Domain Name Server) can match up to an IP address (Internet Protocol). IP addresses are basically like phone numbers for a computer so that requests can be sent to and from it.
