I was a Republican because the slogans are so good, so simple. They run them around focus groups to get nice sounding ones like Get The Government Off Our Backs. Then spy on you, regulate your private life. Or Financial Responsibility, then run up a trillion dollar debt to Communist China. There is NO reality to the Republican Party, it is all empty slogans.

The Democratic Party however has produced really useful and important things like environmental protection (to keep this and future generations healthy), Social Security, Medicare, public education, public improvements like Hoover Dam and the national highways and various aqueduct projects. On and on. The Democratic Party is by no means perfect, but it is light years ahead of the Republican Party.

Democrats generally want more government programs (social and economic) and want higher taxes. Republicans generally want less government and to keep taxes low. Republicans tend to believe in the spirit of the entrepreneur and hard working people alike as being the strength of our nation and democrats think the government should take care of the people with programs and handouts. Republicans also seem to to be more people of faith where as the democrats are usually secular. Something that really gets on my nerves in the U.S. are people who believe its an inherit right to abort babies. Our country has become so godless and without morals that this is the normal way of thinking. If you look at a country like Mexico that has staggering poverty levels they would never think of aborting the unborn. It just doesn't even cross their mind. I know i am digressing but sometimes you need to vent.
