There are many other ways to express feelings and creativity. There is art, music, writing, hair, bookbags, jewlery etc etc. The reason uniforms are being enforced is because of school violence and misbehavior. Most of the public schools in my area have a dress code of khakis (pants, skirt, skort and shorts) and a polo style shirt (must be able to be tucked in so midriff will not show but can be any color they want). We are living in a society where name brands mean everything. And kids can be mean to other kids who can not afford the name brand things. The baggy clothes aren't allowed b/c kids could hide dangerous things in their clothing such as guns and knives. If you make everyone look the same the idea is that everyone will be treat each other the same. Maybe you can suggest an idea to a student counsel member that Friday's could be a free dress day to wear what you want (as long as it is appropriate). That is one way to show school officials that clothing isn't the cause of problems within in school walls. Schools are turning into "prisons" with security searching and wanding you before you enter the building.
If you like clothes soo much then put a pencil to paper and start sketching designs and maybe eventually make your own designs to express your creativity. Or find a way to bend the uniform rules. Like with belts, scarves, socks, shoes.

If you are under 18, guess what...Whatever Mom and Dad says goes. And what the school says goes on certain matters. You still have free speech. When you turn 18 and are off to college...You can wear whatever you want. No dress codes for a University (unless you go to a religious founded and funded university).

Look at it this way...It doesn't take long to get your outfit picked out for the day and you get to sleep a few extra minutes in the morning.

IT is good and bad
bad because adolescents should be able to express themselves
yet good because it then takes the pressure off kids to try and fit in with peers, not wearing the clothes that are in style and being ridiculed etc
one also has to consider whether or not every parent can afford the uniform and with school uniforms comes the need for rules and regulations about what occurs when a student does not wear the proper attire to school.

I personally would not have liked uniforms in high school, but I don't think it would limit anyone's creativity. Creativity and self expression is (hopefully) not just in the clothes you wear, but in everything you do. Uniforms, in some cases, may keep kids in line or keep kids from making fun of others for their clothing choices. Plus, I know I would have looked damn hot in a school girl uniform.

There are advantages and disadvantages to school uniforms.

The disadvantages are obvious- you won't be able to express yourself through clothes. Everyone looks alike and it would be difficult to define your sense of style.

The advantage of a uniform is that you have to focus less on clothes which saves time in the morning and it makes it less obvious which students are financially better off than others.

On one hand, people should be able to go to school with a uniform and not have to WORRY so much about what other people think. however, everyone has a right to creativity and their own style and conformity is not the way to go.

for private schools or schools with high crime rates the kids should have to wear uniforms. All else should be free to express their own style though many people are cookie cutter no style hollister and abercrombie addicts.
