Apollo, not only was his popularity beyond Greece but his tales had a certain charm about them that made him seem godlike, of course, but still down to earth. he was a sexy god that appealed to many on so many different levels.

There is an urban tale that happened recentl;y that gives me a few kicks when I think about it.

Fabio was hired to be the actor/model for the Greek Apollo when a theme park opened it's new roller coaster. Something about Apollo's golden apple, no clue it was in europe. Fabio mentioned he was even better than Apollo and then got on the virgin/maiden ride. Subsequently, a Goose flew by at the exact wrong time and crashed into Fabio's face, breaking the man's nose. The goose is seen as a sign of Apollo. :P

Have a great day.

Athena because she is the goddess of wisdom. Also, her birth was pretty cool. She came forth from Zeus's head fully grown and decked out in armor.

come ON guys....read the @(*&#@$ question before you answer it.

LOKI????? (Sorry, he's Norse...several thousand miles north of Rome or Athens)

Baba Yaga?????(Ummm...not a god/dess, but rather an evil witch in Scandanavian fairy tales)

Sekmet/Ra/Bast?????(Egypt is a little to the SE of the area that we are talking about).

My personal favorites would be Pan/Dionysus......revelry, lechery, liscentiousness and fornication, all without guilt or retribution. (Sounds like my last house party, but thats a different question)
