Manga seems to be thriving at the $8-$15 price point, so I suppose reduce the size of the pages and stick heavily to black and white.

To compete with the anime and manga markets. Also, I guess to recover from the bankruptcies from the 90s. Another thing, they don't want to loose the market completely... Some people are now crossing over to virtual books. But I really don't think comics are all that expensive... I mean, depending on what you like and how many variants or covers of a book you "really" need. I personally like to own my own stuff on paper... So, as long as people like me are around, the paper stuff's gonna keep sellings and depending on how their marketing and sales do in other departments (animation series, clothing, toys, lunchboxes, figures, etc.) then that's usually what drives costs up or down...

Why would a child want comics? Just kidding. You can bring the cost down by increasing volume if you choose, but there has to be a market for it or you will be stuck with a lot of excess product.
