I'm not trying to be racist or anything but I know some people have debated about this.

Wuld you be stereotypical and automaticaly assume they had something to do with it or would you talk to them and get to know that person and figure out a way to get out of there?

scared, no..unless they told me they had a bomb strapped to them. when i see or am near an middle eastern, i dont assume they or bad or look down on them in any way. id talk to them as much as id talk to anyone else, which isnt much! but yeah, if we were stuck, id hope we would talk to try and figure a way out, no one wants to be stuck in an elevator!

I think there's no way I'd know if this person were "middle eastern" without asking. I've found I'm pretty bad at guessing someone's ethnicity. In fact, I think most people aren't as good at it as they think since people always think I look Italian when actually I look most like my mother's side, which is Irish.

But to answer your question, I am quite sure I would I talk to the only other person stuck in an elevator with me. I tend to be chatty with people anyhow, especially in a circumstance like that. Also, I'm sure I'd be at least a little bit nervous about being stuck in an elevator and human companionship would make me feel better. So unless this person gave me lots of signals that s/he didn't want to talk to me, I'd be all sorts of talkative.

Not unless they were carrying obvious weapons(guns, knives, bombs, etc.), but hell, I'd feel that nervous if Mr. Whitey or Mr Pink had the same items! Hey, maybe you should get one of those mini cameras in, say a pen or tie tack and start taking pictures and sending them to the Government; I mean, if you have a feeling(not just because they appear Mid Eastern), that something may be "up", definitely call; I was playing on-line Poker 1 time and was playing with guys speaking I guess, Arabic, talking about Osama and jihad, hammas...I called the site's Customer Service number and asked them to monitor the conversation; being located in India, I'm not sure how far it actually went, but I hope someone at least looked and passed it on....you never know now-a-days!

No; people from all over the world live in this country, if I were in the elevator at all I would be scared but because of a person from the Middle East; no way.

I would hope that I would talk with them, learn a bit about them. I think they might be afraid of me. I mean, the US has been bombing and killing folk in Iraq now for a couple years through no fault of theirs. I am sure that Westerners would appear threatening. It might be a turning point in both our lives.

And yes, we might figure a way out. I would hope that. Might start a lifelong friendship. That would be nice. I would not turn down a chance to travel and see where they lived.

Hey, and maybe it would be some beautiful Iranian woman, eyes like a doe, educated and smart. We could later play chess and sip sherbert. I could photograph her in the fading light reflected off the veils in her room there in Malibu. She would dance for me. I would be captivated.

Sure beats hating each other. Just my take on things.

I'd be more scared of being stuck in an elevator, than who I was stuck in there with. It has actually happened to me, I was stuck with three Somalian men for nearly an hour. They took off their jackets for me to sit on( I was 8 months pregnant at the time), and gave me food and water from their backpacks, and kept telling me that I must not be afraid since it would harm the baby. They seemed to know I have a slight case of claustrophobia.

No, I wouldn't. Timothy McVeigh was a home-grown American with a Scottish/Irish last name, but his group of origin was not responsible for the Oklahoma City bombing! If, in reaction to what he did, you got scared every time you came in contact with a native-born U.S. citizen with a Scottish last name, imagine how few breaks you would get from terror.

yes because then i knew i had lost my mind. because there are no elevators in this hick town. none zero. as far as some one from the middle east being stuck with me on this wild imagined elevator would only make me sad.

I live and work in NYC. We have no choice but to figure out a way. On the other hand, if it's skinhead with swastika tattoos, then I'm gonna be very careful.
