We have a painted deck and it is a safety hazard. Painted surfaces get really slippery, especially when wet.

If you must paint, use a porch and deck paint and make sure you properly prepare the surface by washing, scraping, wiping it down and priming. If you don't do proper prep work you could use the best paint in the world and it will still peel.

Go to a store that specializes in paint (more than a place like home depot would), and tell them that you need durable outside paint. In my experience in paint stores (here in Boise we have Sherwin Williams and Kelly Moore paint stores), the people there have always been very knowlegeble and have helped me get the best product. I would look in the yellow pages or use google to find a paint store in your area.

try keeping it natural and just using a sealant,cuponol is a great sealent and water repellent.if you must paint use an oil based as opposed to a latex.good luck
