Do you mean from Douglas Adam's Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy? That was made into a film last year. The ultimate question is, what is the meaning of life, the universe and everything? And the answer is 42.

From "Hitch Hiker's Guide To the Galaxy". The computer came up with the ultimate answer, 42, but it didn't match what the askers thought was the ultimate question. So, Earth was made so they could figure out what the Ultimate Question was, but it was blown up just before they got the question. And in the end of the movie(I never got to the end of the book), they decided that the Ultimate Question was "How many roads must a man walk down?"(I don't remember if they continued it to "Before he is considered a man").
