I doubt it will cease to exist completely, but i believe it will be around in a different form.
Look at my country, Britain. In 500 years we've gone from a European power to a World empire and back again. Alot can happen in half a century

I expect we will exist in a much different form, with, perhaps, parts of this nation successfully ceceding and forming their own nations. We, in turn may be absorbed into a greater North American group.

I really doubt that any of the pieces will be labeled U.S.A.

A VERY likely scenario will be that the nations of this world may split up into ecomomic hegeonomies, with power bases based on resources and infrastructure, rather than on populations.

This is all assuming we survive the next 500 years. The USA may consist of a tribe of 4 families, living in tents along the Potomac River.

I think the beginning of the end of the United States as we know it, started with the election of 2000. Not conceding the loss was so bad for this country it isnt even funny. I think it caused an even deeper polarization of the country and that has made it harder, seemingly on a daily basis, for any politician to work for the country rather than their party, or their own power.

The land mass the US currently occupies will be here, but 500 years is an awful long time for ANY government to survive without changes.

Hopefully, those changes will happen when the citizens of the US take back their rights, and their government from the corporations and their lacky politicians.

I think we should be more concerned whether or not mankind totally wipes himself off the planet in the next 5 - 50 years than we are about whether or not the U. S. will still be around in 500 years.

The United States has completely passed its peak and it's bound to collapse soon. Just look at the Romans and Greeks.

Ask me in 500 years. :)

Well, It depends but the world would be much different in 500 years.

Bulgaria, where I am from, was 500 years under turkish rule and was able to reemerge again in 1878, so I see no reason why US shouldn't last 500 years more...

If you elect me (the dyke in my profile picture), you won't have to wait that long. It will be destroyed by 2010. Elect me, because 8 years of corruption and selling out the country was not enough time to complete the job.

If you read "Collapse" by Jared Diamond, it appears we are past our peak and that the 21st century will be an Asian century.

We won't be here by the end of this century if we keep going on the path of destruction we're on now.
