It is hard to choose because both have good points and bad points.
As for the first it was more new and interesting because no one knew how they would take a short disney ride and turn it into an entire movie. Plus it was more interesting to watch the actors because we had never seen them portray those characters before. Also the score was amazing.
The second was also very good but for different reasons such as the increased budget and amazing special effects. The problem was that as with many movies in a trilogy it really doesn't stand on its own because a major part of it is setting up the third movie. Also it wasn't quite as exciting to see the characters again because nothing really had changed about them. In addition the score seemed kind of remixed from the original and there didn't seem to be as many original compositions.

While I really liked the 2nd, I think the first was better. The action was non-stop in the first film, it was a little slow to start in the second. Who can beat Capt. Jack's entrance in the first film??? Proudly riding in on his sinking ship....The romantic longing of Will for Elizabeth, now he has reason to doubt her in the second (if you've seen it, you understand)...the ending in the first movie was so cool and this time they may as well have written To be continued across the screen.
Overall it was a great sequel, but it never had the same momentum as the first. I look forward to the third one though!!

I enjoyed Pirates of the Caribbean: the Black Pearl A WHOLE LOT more than Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest. But I'll watch almost anything with Johnny Depp or Orlando Bloom involved...

I think the first pirates movie was better. They tried too hard in the second one to make it funny. It just didn't have the same feel to it.

I think they were both awesome. The first was definitely more of a "Pirate-era" kind of movie and definitely had a lot more memorable lines. But the second one was such an awesome adventure movie. I would probably say the first because it had more memorable moments and more quoteable lines.

The First was better but not by much
It was Shorter, had great one liners to use, and was less animated.
The second one was too long the end dragged on, but was still a good movie despite that.

Part 1 was better in my opinion because no one knew what to expect. Everything was new and original! Part 2 was ok, but I think part 3 is going to be really good! They set it up quite nicely!

The first. they make good first movies, thatn make crappy sequels so people will come to em and they'll make a lot of money the first couple days.

easy - the first!!! it had a beginning, middle and end! amazing how that works and it feels like you didnt waste your time...i disliked the 2 movie a lot!

Thee first one by far cuz it was tonz more funny! made more sense,Kiera did't kiss depp in the first....and the secound 1 showed to much of that icky stuff....it was pretty lame...
