I loved the WC and even though Australia got eliminated early, I was totally glued to the television. I am sooo sad it is over but oh well, only 4 years to wait. But I really do get what you are saying. Outside of the fact that it is so commercialised and money orientated, you only have to look through this site to see how many things are now seen as acceptable in the game of football, to know it will never return to the game it used to be. The game has changed and the Administration is far more politically inclined and focused on other aspects of the game instead of the game itself. I think the football of the past that made it so great is increasingly further from our reach. Such a shame.

I totally agree. And to see a purely defensive team like Italy (defending so often with 11 men) win was a total travesty. I think two things can be done to solve the problem:

1/ Make the goals slightly larger, but this might be too much for purists.

2/ Return to a 4-2-4 format. Teams should realize that with a strong attack and mid-field, you can prevent the other team from getting even close to your goal (and therefore don't need to defend with so many men). After all, a huge majority of goals came from set pieces in this World Cup, so why bother defending so much during regular play??? Defending with 10 men and putting one hapless striker in front just kills the game. Maybe FIFA should set a rule that would forbid more than 6 players to be on either side of the field at any given time, but that's wishful thinking.

Well, how about creating two World Cups. One for defensive teams (like Italy) and one for attacking teams (like Brazil)???!!! Of course ever since sports became so professional and money-oriented, the fun, beautiful game disappeared...

Me thinks, the fewer than pronounced songs depicts real spirit of the international cup. search for suggestion from youtube to observe the songs: a million. ok’naan – Waving Flag The reputable music of the FIFA international Cup 2010 is amazingly between the most acceptable international Cup topic songs of all time, and only a good music often. It thoroughly captures the spirit of the football, freedom, obstacles being damaged, and people being united with the help of the suited recreation. 2. Ricky Martin – The Cup of life no matter if you’re gay or immediately, some issues in life in no way substitute. The Cup of life or la Cope de la Vida, is one music that's sure to have you ever bellowing “Gol! Gol! Gol! Ole! Ole! Ole!”, and is likely the most acceptable international Cup topic music EVER! 3. Chumbawamba – Tubthumping This wasn’t the reputable topic music of the France ’ninety 8 international Cup, yet replaced into the call song of FIFA’s reputable videogame. Twelve years on, this continues to be extensively known because the most acceptable call song for any football videogame that EA activities have ever produced.

WC 2006 was still enjoyable overall although it was really disgusting to see the unsportsmanlike attitude of some of the teams/players. there's just too much gamesmanship going on. the lousy part is, people allow these stupid antics to prosper with blithe pronouncements that it's all part of the game. if it is then let's not call it footbal anymore. let's call it dive ball or ballet ball or sports acting, whatever. for christssake, why don't they use those video replays so then all the divers and fakers out there are caught out and given their due. it's gone past entertaining, i tell you. also, in the context of the zizou debacle, doesn't it strike you as ironic that in the middle of all the faked injuries and playacted agony that went on, the gravest penalty would be dealt out to someone who might have well suffered a real hurt? we all say that trash talk is okay, hard to get rid off, part of the game, etc. but a line has gotta be drawn somewhere. it's unfair to pit one team who's only intent is to play and win a match fairly against another with no similar qualms, touts the rules and who's only agenda is to win and win at all cost. i know people would say this is just girlie talk, what you do know, you're just a spectator go play for real, etc. etc. but no one can deny something bad for the sport is happening out there.

The 2006 World Cup ranks high on the list of travestys I have witnessed in my life. From the excessive diving and theatrics, to the poor sportsmanship, this world cup was anything but beautiful.

I think before we can figure out how to get the beautiful game back, we would have to highlight the problem. In my humble opinion, the "anything to win" mentality is the driving force behind the decay of football.

1) have tv replays on penalty calls to prevent diving...any player judge to be diving gets a red card!!!

2)eliminate penalty shootouts...in case of a tie the winning team is the one with the most shots on goals.

3)When in doubt kick it out is for wimps!!!- penalize defenses for deliberately kicking the ball out of bounds. The only purpose of this is to stop the attacking team and to slow down the rhythm of the game. After the ball has been kicked out of bounds 3 times, the attacking team should be awarded a free kick.

4)Allow a maximum of 4 players in the wall during free kicks.

5)If a team commits 5 fouls, the opposing team is awarded a free kick outside the penalty area. If it commits another 5 fouls it gets awarded another free kick outside the penalty area and so on. This is much better than yellow cards which do absolutely nothing.

6)Dont eliminate the offside rule since this will eliminate player breakaways and would cause players to bunch up in the penalty area waiting for the ball.

7) Reduce the size of the penalty area...this leads to less penalty calls and less penalty kicks(which are so boring to watch).

8) If all this fails, then enlarge the goals or prevent the goal keepers from handling the ball with their hands.

We need to convince all the nasty english hooligans that their team is NOT above the rest and that they need to accept defeat like everyone else. Great teams were eliminated from the Cup and no one in the whole world reacted as ugly as they did. Only one team can win it, although at times it is not necessarily the best one. Period!
