Because they've been conditioned to listen and believe everything preachers say. Not to think!

I grew up in the Deep South - the Bible Belt.
i was first surprised, then shocked that some people ( not all) took anything that any preacher said as if it was the absolute direct Word of God. Even if the preacher was talking about softball, a brand of shoes, or potato salad ingredients. I saw both my mother and my mother-in-law react like this. And these were both VERY smart women; they didn't automatically believe things that anybody else said.
i didn't understand then, and i understand it less even now.

A preacher is an authority figure, like a parent or big brother or teacher. Of course, some people think all preachers are speaking for God. Not true, unfortunately.

Hello! I thought this question on Yahoo! Answers might be interesting to you. What is the answer to Stephen Hawkin's big question. Perhaps does not fully sustain that with some efforts in the right or wrong directions. The world we know is 100% sure to change in ways that permit little chance of human survival. Make sure that you don't fall into his trap. OK? I can tell you when you find a great minister who serves your needs. Socrates type. It probably won't be as maybe fustrating as it might have been in the past. Wishing the best of luck!

The whole world is about power and control. People like to exercise control and to a certain extent, want to be controlled as well. For example, at home, the man of the house wants to control his family but he would (unknowingly) be willing to listen to everything a preacher would have to say.
There is another group of people on this earth - who know that some people just love to be controlled and go out to control them. no matter how learned or sophisticated we become, there is always the CONTROLLERS and the LISTENERS. There will always be peasants and kings (now we have citizens and politicians), there will always be religious leaders and followers.
Whether you want to listen or preach, choice is yours.

we're here to learn so that we may give. Why go get your hair cut when you can cut it yourself? Other people have gifts that you can be helped by and learn from. And thank God for that! Aside from that, preachers aren't perfect, but listen to them with an open mind and open heart, knowing that they are doing something that many people fear most in the world-talking in front of an audience-and take from it whatever speaks to you. Even those truly led by God, still have sin because we all do, but I think that they are there to teach us and lead us. Like Christ.

Why did you ask this question? Why don't you just think on your own?
I value the opinions of some clergymen because I consider them to be intelligent individuals who have spent vastly more time studying Scripture than I have available to me for that pursuit. Obviously you still have to use your own judgment and measure what they say against what you know to be true from your own study. But even hearing a viewpoint different from your own can help you crystallize what you do believe.

You confuse caring and listening. Not all people always agree with what Religious Figures say, they do often listen though. I don't always care or understand what they are getting at but I listen. As for the rest I form my own opinions and sometimes I agree with them.

this is a very hypocritical question, since about 95 percent of the people believe every single word the government says while they are being robbed of freedom right under their noses.
