I am closing my account at the credit union due to unsatisfactory customer service. Do they have any incentive to give good customer service, since they are not-for-profit organizations? Do they really care if I close my account or not?

Credit Unions have to please their members because they can't serve anyone else. The idea is to share the excess 'profit' with the members rather than with investors or shareholders.
