Yes, the Reds needed an upgrade defensively and he does just that. His slick fielding glove will definitely help the Reds' pitchers. He's never been a good hitter and he'll never will be. However, he does display occasional power and is good bunter. The main goal in the trade for the Reds was to acquire defense and relief pitching and the did just that. Pitching and defense > offense.

Yes he will for now, but this move really signifies the fact that Brandon Phillips will move to shortstop in the near future, because with olmedo, freel, and castro, those are 3 solid second basemen. Clayton is a great fielder, but he has YET to hit a homerun this year, which is pretty sad, the reds have a pitcher that has more homeruns than clayton does.
