Yes. What have these so- called celebrities actually done to earn their status? It used to be that people had to actually do something to be famous, eg. win a gold medal in the Olympics, become president etc. Nowadays it seems that all you have to do is be thin, get your t*** out on a reality TV show, or marry a footballer, and suddenly your face is all over celeb magazines and gossip columns. The whole obsession that society has with celebrity has gotten completely out of control.

I assume that the term means that somebody is celebrated because of their work or actions. Unfortunately there are a lot of people that I do not wish to celebrate. I don't mind anyone being called a celebrity, my problem is when somebody believes their own hype and thinks that they are better than somebody else.
I certainly think that there is a moral decline in society and this is exacerbated by the publication of celebrity based magazines that make people want to aspire to low levels of stardom.
I am not saying that people I would class as a celebrity are any better than anyone else but at least I can see how they earned their recognition.
Now did I just say that or think it?!!! lol

Actually, no, I don't think that's true in general though it seems the media does a very good job of exposing certain peoples private lives and insinuating this message to society. Don't you imagine there are a lot more 'average' people who's private lives would be much more deplorable to society if the media chose to expose them as well? I do.
Very good question though. Shows you care at least.

I think they make poor role models.
The majority of people can relate to, and be just like, these 'celebrities' with little or no effort.
Whereas in the past celebrities tended to be famous for having done something worthwhile, creative or entreped.
It is a shame, and it does show a decline in our society.

Once a person gets some camera time in front of the entire world they are dubbed celebrities. It's insane. And I also think people in Hollywood are getting too much attention. Why can't they have a private life?

I really don't knwo because celebrities used to be people with special talents, and those anorexic blondies are just famous for their scandals and sex histories. It is really a signal of decadence in our society. Also where are the great singers like Barbara Streisand?

It certainly signals a decline in the media that elevate people like this into celebrities. And more fool us for taking any notice of them.

I think it shows a decline in talent more than anything else.
They're classed as celebs because they have money & are regularly seen in the parties the newspapers write about not because of any achievment or talent but because of the expensive clothes they wear, catty comments they make and places they visit

yes it does. it shows how drunk Hollywood is getter (lol yes but its true). almost nobody has a personal life anymore. there are so many more stalkers out there than there was like 10 years ago.
people really need to get a brain pill or something... and fast
many people are going into Hollywood only for the money (mostly). those people need to be stopped. they don't care about fans and their dues. its getting completely ridicules

Girl it is just a sign of the time...Or that fake is the new real...fake boobs...fake noses...fake hair... I mean where are the real gals and guys of hollywood? I will tell you..They are the back up dancers...The back of singers... the Makeup artists...the asstants...and who ever else makes that person into a star.
We as fans need to say hey natural and thick...or no makeup and healthy is the new look...All these stars are starving to be accepted for what they really are normal people... Fans need to say... it is ok for you to gain a couple of pounds...I did.. or to cut or die your hair.
