People said that he was a better war-time leader than a peace-time leader and so after WWII he lost re-election to Atlee.

I wanted to know what were the main reasons why he lost that election. Also once he finally did get re-elected again, did he prove to be an effective leader during his second term?

Hope my question makes sense but if anyone could explain in their own words, that'd be a big help.

Mr Churchill was famous for his drive and during the War, he could bring his considerable military experience to bare.
However, the troubles of the late 40's were not a global war, Winston didnt have the policies or the drive to tackle them. Labour made major moves to re-construct Britain, peopel were sick to death (no pun intended) of war and they held the initative. It was a hopeless election for churchill, but he wasnt ready to be a peace-time leader

Winston Churchill was a very combative personality. He never backed away from a fight and he was never daunted by the odds against him. Before the war and after the war he was considered by many to be too abrasive for peacetime politics. But when WW II arrived and England was directly threatened, and few, if any, could stand up to the aggressive personality of Hitler, the leaders of the Empire knew there was one person who could save their bacon, and they picked Churchill. Afterward, having got what they needed from him, they went back to their former view of him. He was never effective as a peacetime leader, even though he was much admired for his character and strength and was reelected. after being out of office. But peacetime gave few of the opportunities that wartime had for Churchill to make those dramatic combative speeches that the English have loved ever since Shakespeare wrote them into the mouths of English Kings. As John Kennedy pointed out, Churchill mobilized a language and saved his nation.

I dont know why he was not re-elected but Ill tell you about Winston Churchill. He was better wartime leader cause he was like a secret weapon. That man had some pretty big balls for a brit. On D-day he grabbed a Tommy gun and was ready to go after those kraut bastrads himself and it took 3 Allied soldiers to hold him back. Dont know how much thatll help, if any at all..... But its a true story.

The British people in 1945 were tired of ten years of coalition government, sacrifices, and rationing, and the war had ended in Europe on May 8. Also Churchill hurt himself by attacking Labourites as Communists.
