I think 16 is a good age. I have had a job ever since I was 16 and it helped me and my parents handle the things I needed for school. It helped me pay the $340 needed for drivers ed. My parents liked that it taught me to be responsible and pay a lot of the stuff I wanted. It's also a good way to start saving for college and application fees and SAT's.

I started working at 15 but I was working for the school district's after school programs so they were monitoring my grades as well as my hours.
However, I was turned down for many summer jobs the summer befor my 16th birthday(late birthday in October) because I was too young. The same jobs my friends got. I really think that it should be based on grade, not age. It's all about maturity. And I think entering 9th grade is when you should be able to start applying.

I've seen people do part time jobs and go to school full time at the age of 14 and do ok. Then again some people don't. I think by 16 you ought to be pretty much mature enough.

16 like it is right now I think is a good age. Below that I don't think they're old enough to handle jobs reponsibly. I think below that age they should be doing small jobs around the house or for neighbors or friends to help them learn responsibility instead of throwing them into a job that can effect lots of people. Also, school is extremely important. They need to be old enough to be able to balance school and work appropriately.
