I think gay people should be allowed to marry. Marriage IS NOT only a Christian thing. Many religions practice marriage.

Now, I am not saying that gay marriage is not a sin, but what do I know? I am not God, and anyone who judges and assumes that they know His will is blasphemous (of course every circumstance is different, but at least in this thread they seem ignorant.) The only person I would take real advice from on this subject is the Son of God, and he has already been here. Even then, He is the one to judge, not the other way around!

Also, lets remember that sin is sin. When Adam and Eve were in the Garden of Eden whether their sin had been taking the Lord's name in vain or being gay (again I am not saying this IS a sin) they would have been thrown out of the Garden and condemned to hell. So basically, all you 'Christians' that judge gay marriage let the one that has not sinned throw the first stone. Maybe someone would actually listen to you if you weren't so judgmental. Remember it is by the Grace of God that you can even call yourself a Christian.

Oh, and PS, the church and the state should be separate, so yes, gay marriage should be legal. After that, every church should decide on its own if they will support the idea.

In conclusion, do what makes you happy and what you conscience (whether you conscience be influenced by Christianity or not) proves to you to be best.

Hope that helped.

Doc: Thank you for at least being composed in your response. However I must beg to differ. The down fall of marriage in my opinion can be attributed to the fact that people view marriage in the wrong way. Marriage is not primarily built for children. Perhaps if people would realize that they DO NOT HAVE to have children, then they would realize what a blessing marriage would be.

Also, everyone complains about their situation: black, white, hispanic, and gay. We love to complain. It gives us an excuse to slack of. Saying that every gay person complains is not realistic.

No.

No one minds if any two people love each other. Now, there are restrictions in morality and in law on who you can have sex with, and who you can marry, but no restrictions on whom you can love. You can love many things, but it is good that the law restricts which things you can marry. Love isn't sufficient justification for a marriage to be legal.

Marriage is both a civil and a religious rite. The law has an interest in the stability of the society and the well-being of the society. In societies that have the equivalent of same-sex marriage the institution of marriage is seen as irrelevant to modern life, both for same-sex couples and male-female couples. This in turn leads to a lack of commitment and a lack of parenting. The children suffer. The law has a responsibility to uphold the institutions of society which promote the welfare of the children. Marriage is primarily for the benefit of the children, not a license for sex for two people who love each other.

Like it or not, people have a tendency to think that something is okay if it is legal. If same-sex unions are made legal, people will tend to think that they must be okay. They will think that society has cast its seal of approval on homosexual behavior. I think this is the unspoken crux of the issue. Homosexuals may talk about love and being just like others and wanting to have marriages just like others and being denied civil rights, but what they really want is to have the approval of the rest of us, officially. Not just tolerance, but approval. Those who oppose same-sex unions want the society to take an official stand in opposition to homosexual behavior. What is at stake is an important perception of what is acceptable behavior.

It seems that "gay" people are forever claiming that their lot is hard, and who would ever want to be a homosexual if it really were a choice. Woe is poor pitiful me. I have found, though, that they have a lot of pride in being a homosexual. If you told them that there are programs to help them convert to heterosexual feelings they would be vehement in denying it. They would attack you for suggesting that they should or could change. You see that their claims for not wanting to be homosexual are just a smoke screen. They really do enjoy it. They are not the helpless victims they sometimes make themselves out to be.

Isn't there some way we could all find a middle of the road answer? Why can't there be "civil" unions? It could give gay and lesbian couples the same legal rights as heterosexuals, but it is not a religious ceremony so the church should butt out?

Of course! If God didn't intend for anybody to be gay, it wouldn't have happened. I totally disagree with some of the answers to this question. I'll admit, I'm gay, and I am definately not WANTING to! Who the Fu** would want to be gay? Some people say that being gay is a choice. WHATEVER! IT IS NOT A CHOICE, IT'S JUST THE WAY THEY ARE. SO SUCK IT UP, AND SUPPORT GAY MARRIAGE!!!!!!!!!! YOU BITC*

Yes, why not?

a lot of people get married and they don't even love each other.

some people get married for convenience and they are allowed. Why people that are in love can't.

Absolutely gays should be allowed to marry. How ridiculous in our modern society that we 'judge' people and forbid them to marry.
