An insect has got in behind the screen somehow (thunderfly thing) and I am wondering if there is any way I can get the damn thing out or am I going to have to accept that I will be seeing his rotting carcase every time I open up my laptop from now on??

for a skilful lady ;-) no problem. here is the manual how to disassemble the display of your Inspiron laptop.
good luck

click on "Display Assembly"

P.S.
i think you don't need to remove the entire display. you can start with removing the display bezel.
a hint: remove the AC power supply and the laptop battery BEFORE you're disassembling something.

It should still be under warranty if you got it a couple of months ago. I would call Dell about getting a replacement LCD.

i would follow the guide as above extreamilly carefully, as if you damage it then you would invalidate the warrenty, im supprised that an insect had got in there.
