Right click on the desktop and roll your mouse on "Arrange your icons by". It will show you another menu and all you need to do is to click on "show desktop items" if it is unchecked and everything will be back to normal.:)

Click on Start and then Run
Type: GPEDIT.MSC :
hit Enter

I the Group policy editor, go to:
User Config
Admin Templates
Desktop
Hide and disable all items an desktop

change it to "disable"

Or you can go up to View, click toolbars, click yahoo toolbar with a check mark, and then click Customize. And you're done!
