It seems like it would take a lot of energy to maintain such a grumpy personality! Good Lord - they can't all be constipated!

They are unhappy with themselves and with their lives. Yes it does take a lot of energy to be so mean and you end up feeling like crap. I can't believe people choose to live like that.

I agree with the answer because they are not happy with themselves. Different reasons for different people. Some need God, others have unresolved issues in their pasts, some have chemical imbalances or depression, others are currently having problems such as abusive relationships, addictions, money problems, health problems etc.

There can be many reasons why some people are mean and unpleasant, just don't let them bring you down to their level. There aren't enough of us Happy People left in the world, that we just take one day at a time and not let it get to us, at least that is how I make it from day to day. Smiles can be contagious so try and pass them on to others and maybe they will catch it.

They're stressed out and worried about more important things than a conversation and a social life, probably.
They also could've been through something dramatic in their life which changed their personality. Example: A death in the family, a near death experience, etc

Thats a GOOD question!!!!!!! I work with a couple of ladies like this and I just don't get it! Everyday is a bad day for them, its like they have constant PMS! Maybe its the job? I don't know. I'm always smiling and cheerful at my job and it seems like that just rubs them the wrong way but then again, everything seems to rub them the wrong way. It seems like no one can do anything right for them...EVER! UGH!

It's because they are unhappy, so they want you to be unhappy too. It's easier to be mean than try to be nice, plus some people are just ugly inside, and can't help it. Don't let it get you down - there ARE some nice people too!!

They have nothing to believe in and get all wrapped up in this life and worldly possessions that they walk aimlessly through this world with no happiness.

It may be a lot of different reasons.I find that if you are pleaseant and kind to them it usually wears them down and you find they can be nice after all.My teacher in 12th grade was like that.

because everyone worrys all the time, which sucks, because worrying sucks. and some people seek justification in complaining, and blaming, etc etc. which sucks some more.
why can't people just live and be happy.
who knows.
