I was afraid of being in water didnt want to swim. Hated watching ppl enjoying them self was afraid to ask family friends help as they made fun of me. One day when no one around i got courage went in to sea played around tried moving my arms legs nothing, apart from getting mouth fulls sea water. Thou tasted yuck felt good. Kept doing this held on to board so if ppl saw u they thought you were body boarding one day i turned on back and was floating. freaked out when realised. kept doing it then tried in pool was difficult, started doing dog paddle. Got hit by a wave out of blue i was swimming not good but i learnt thru my own determination. Still not a good swimmer tho I enjoy getting out there now. Family never new i couldnt swim after the torments it back fired on them as they thought i was just hideing it from them. Fooled them. Other wise you get in to pool dont make it obvious shes watching try the basics like your trying to learn more kick board boogie board floating. Leave the pool make believe you are too busy to swim hopefully she will try for herself just keep an unsuspicious eye on her so she doesnt get in to trouble.I still go water after a long time and forget how to swim so i frollick about next its happening. Main thing don't pressure her support her. Good luck. There are good swimming schools about or a personal coach.

Have you checked out the Red Cross's swimming program? Get her in a class with a bunch of others at the same level. She'll lose her self-consciousness that way. They also have books on teaching swimming.
I disagree with all those people advising throwing her in. Red Cross emphasizes teaching people to relax in the water.

Then take her to the swimming baths and enroll her in classes. There's nothing to be embarrassed about. Lot's of people can't swim. The only other people there will be the instructors and other non-swimmers so she's nothing to be afraid of. Give her some encouragement and she'll be OK.

Take her to a private pool (someone you know) where there's not very many people & throw her in. That's how my sister & I learned. On a less primitive note, I taught my kids by 1st getting them to relax & float. Then the doggy paddle. It wasn't long after that they could swim like fish. The important thing is for your sister NOT to be scared.

toddlers of that age can only sit down for 5-10 minutes at maximum and that is fantastic that your baby can no longer. you should attempt having him sit down on a ball or a wedge. in case your baby speaks a distinct language at living house different then English because the regularly happening then i'd propose that the instructor makes use of photo cue to tutor your baby better. yet another ingredient you should do is have the instructor log even as he sits and for a way lengthy. perchance some thing so ordinary as waking your baby up 5 minutes before ought to help. the perfect concept is to bypass to the decision including your baby 2 to three circumstances a week to ascertain what is going on including your own eyes. For all you understand the instructor purely no longer communicate what's envisioned of the toddlers properly adequate on your baby to appreciate.

well the best way is to simply have her wear some overalls and grab the back to ensure you have a good grip then say 1 2 3 and push her in...if she doesnt resuface within a moment not only can you say u tried to teach her but thats 1 less person to buy a christmas gift for so its clearly a win win situation..
and if u dont want her to be embarssed have her wear a wig...once shes in the water it will fall off so she can use it as a flotation device if she wants
bye bye un-swimin pie

I was once 15 and could not swim, I simply developed some guts and jumped from the diving board. After that my fear went away.

i think the best way to teach her how to swim is to bring her in water where she cannot reach the floor, maybe let her hold on to you while you swim her out there, and then let her go. you will be right there so she wont drown or anything. it may sound mean but it will work.
