We make the drive from Houston to Orlando every year. It is about 15 hours there depending on stops. If you are going to Disney, I have great directions. Take I-10, I-12 (around new orleans instead of through) I-10, I 75 south, florida's turnpike. Take US 27 south and then US 192 E towards Disney. Follow signs once you have gone about 7 miles... It is the back way. You pay one toll. If you don't, you will pay a lot more in tolls and go through a lot more traffic. This is the best way to go.

Yes, it's fairly long (about 15 hours). We drove it a number of times before moving from TX to the Orlando area. Try to enjoy some of the scenery (swamps in Louisiana, forests in northern Florida) and look for interesting things like the hurricane damage from Katrina.
Think of it also as a time to learn more about your family (maybe more than your really want to know). Ask your parents about trips they took when they were kids. Ask them how they first met.
Take some naps. Listen to music on earphones. Take along an audio book to listen to.
Before you know it, the long drive will be over.

It is a very long, boring, boring trip. I-10 has got to be the most boring road on the world!! I have driven to and from Orlando to New Orleans and that took about 9 hours, so it would be longer from TX, depending where in TX you are coming from and how fast you drive. (Don't do over 10 mph over on I-10 in FL, many places for the cops to hide.)

Fly, fly, fly if you can. Meet your family there if you have to, or bring a long book that you are really interested in!

Your looking at a 15 +/- hour drive. If you don't like driving for long periods of time, you probably won't have the best time!
