Day to day folks at news stations have to get the story fast and edit it faster before it's aired. This leaves no time for anything, including the story itself oftentimes.
Reporters, editors and producers work for the show, and if the show is the local or national news, their bosses aren't going to direct them to air anything other than the crapola they think people and the advertisers want to see. They do studies to see what their audience is and what they want to see. If they think their audience is men between 25-35 they'll do stories on football stars getting if traffic accidents and then you'll see lots of commercials for trucks.
Shows are geared in different ways to get different audiences. Some try to be thoughtful and in depth--these are called news magazine shows. The stories are longer and the reporters/producers have spent weeks gathering information. There are infotainment shows, financial news shows, etc.
Certainly there is bias. Everybody in the media puts theirs in every now and then. The parent company will put theirs in too. That is why it's important to have public airwaves.
If you think the media's unsaid agenda is transparent, maybe you should watch, listen to and read the works of real reporters doing good work as opposed to listening to the idiotic ranting of talk jockeys.
And if you want to see news organizations get called out, you can check out media watchdog groups.
