Ok this is the thing, i start my period every month on the 13th (every once in a while on the 12th). Does this mean i have a 30 day cycle?? And ive read that ovulation STARTS 14 days before your period begins-is this true? If so should i start trying to conceive about 5 days prior to the day my ovulation will begin- so that i better my chances?

Yes you do have a 30 day cycle. And it sounds like your cycle is pretty regular. Actually a female ovulates about 14 or 15 days after the first day their period starts. There is always a chance of pregnancy when having unprotected sex. The best thing to do is start trying to conceive about 5 days before your ovulation date and continue until 5 days after. These are your most fertile days.

Your best bet is to count your days starting at the first day of your last period to the first day of your next; reguardless if you start on a certain day of the month each time. Remeber there are 30 and 31 days in most months and feburary has 28 days except leap year, so it wont matter if your cycle is quite regular.

As for your ovulation, you are right you ovulate approximately 14 days before your period. But this is an approximate range and there are other factors to think of when encouraging or discouraging pregnancy.

ovulation actually starts 14 days AFTER the first day of your period. So, yes, you have a 30 day cycle. Go to www.babycenter.com and it has an ovulation detector and it will tell you the EXACT days that you ovulate!

Things we do every day can alter our cycles, so there is not such a thing as the perfect cycle, I suggest you to get an OPK and monitor from there, you can also take your BBT every day first thing in the morning. I used to have regular cycles and ovulate on different days every month so I would get an OPK to be sure.
