It depends on what you mean by power. As we march towards a knowledge economy where all the countries are more and more intertwined, it becomes harder and harder to user military power to make a point.
For example, America cannot go to war with China because most of its manufacturing capability is outsourced to China. Similarly, China cannot go to war with America because it is a major market for China.
The world is becoming a smaller and smaller place -- it is a part of evolution. Military power today will have less meaning tomorrow. Knowledge on the other hand is going to take an increasingly important place. Whoever controls knowledge will have power.
Unfortunately, Americans are not prepared for this reality. Science and Math scores are at an all time low. Engineering programs in universities have some of the highest drop out rates. America needs to wake up and gets its act together before it looses the knowledge edge.

I do not know if our military will hold it's top spot or not. I believe it will but may be patriotism talking. China is coming on strong & has no concern for it's people - more money to military, less concern for their lives. They are our biggest threat.
In people, I think we will still be the strongest. Education will strengthen us & love of country will grow. It always does after a war. We are a group of people with imagination, intelligence & the freedom to use them.
