Because of the mass advertise. None of the other manufacturers advertising on billboards, TV commercials, etc.
The iPods are inferior with their outdated features, and bad screens. The design is no longer the best either.
I love the iTunes interface, but WMP11 has me turning away from it.

While iPods are more expensive, there's two reasons why I prefer them over any other mp3 player.
1. iTunes. Download music and videos, and an easy, automatic way to sync music with an iPod.
2. Click Wheel. I don't know if you've used it before, but the click wheel makes navigation on the iPod easy. Simply move your finger around on the wheel to scroll through menus. The buttons for play, pause, skip, select, and back are right on the wheel. It's so much easier than pressing a button each time you go down a selection, like on other mp3 players.
Overall, I'd say get an iPod, unless you're really interested in saving money.

I like mine because of it's sleek simple to use interface and its integration with Itunes is perfect. I've had a creative (not the Zen) player and the interface wasn't as streamlined and the player itself wasn't as refined. Playlists were not as easy to manage, the random feature would sometimes play the same song within a few songs of itself, just little things like that. Keep in mind that you can use an Ipod with a PC and you don't need a Mac. Yeah, they are pricey but I wouldn't part with mine for anything.
You can rip any of your CD's onto your HD and load them onto your Ipod and any track that is unlocked and in MP3 format can be loaded on as well. Not just tunes bought from Apple.

well speaking from one who has had both...
my creative labs went out on me completely about 3 months ago and the battery was not the reason...it NEVER dropped,it was never in adverse weather conditions..and I kept it charged every night. I did not have it too full or too empty..it was 30GB and it was great except that it would jump to other songs and sometimes to other playlists..so I DID get an Ipod...first of all, the iTunes library is guaranteed LEGAL music and it is readily available to those of us who have bought the player..yes anyone can get iTunes..but it is a quick deal and it is easy to download...plus it is a different media form...it is not MP3..it is like MP4 or AAF or something to that extent..
I also have a regular PC rather than a Apple PC and it (iTunes) works just fine..

It's the brand that we buy. That and the touch screen. I really have no idea why people prefer these, I guess it's just the advertising. I have an iPod, and I would choose that over any other MP3's.

I totally agree with you. I have a cell phone with a 1Gb SD card in it, almost 300 songs, and I would take this over an i-pod any day. They're exactly what you said, over rated, over priced, not worth it! And besides can't you only load songs that you bought from the i-Tunes store? That's A$$ backwards is right!
