In California, it's 16. I think that's too young... most of these kids are not mature enough to handle the responsibility yet and end up in a lot of trouble with tickets, accidents, drunk driving etc.

I disagree though....it's not that 16 year olds aren't mature enough to handle driving. It's more of the fact that they are new drivers and inexperienced that gets them into more accidents.

Teenagers aren't the only ones get drunk and drive, nor are they the only ones that drive wrecklessly or with loud kids in the car. It's just that it's even more distracting to them from the experience which goes back to my main thought...that they are inexperienced.

So if the new legal age to get a license was raised to say....20 year olds, eventually people would start complaining that 20 year old drivers are horrible and are too bad of drivers to have their license.

By the way, were you saying the same thing when you were 16 year olds and finally able to drive? If you thought that then you must have been one weird teenager.

I think it should be 18. At 16 they can't even keep their rooms clean, must less concentrate on driving. I didn't allow my kids to get their license until they were 18 because I didn't think they were responsible enough to handle it.
