You can bring it up with her during one of "those" talks .... like, when watching a tv show or something, and tell her that you think you would like to go on birth control, not because you are sexually active, but that so you dont end up being so without protection.
That is best way to go.
However, you can get birth control through planned parenthood without a parents permission or knowledge, and it is better to do that than to go without.

You may not need to let your mother know. The health department will inform you on all the dangers of using birth control and will not inform your mother. Keeping it from your mother will be the difficult part. And, if she found out accidental, it may devastate her. Honesty is the best solution. Good Luck!

seriously hun...why does she need to know? as long as you are using birth control and avoiding pregnancy and stds, etc she has nothing to worry about. my mum still doesnt know whether i have birth control or not (and i never felt the need to tell her). however, if you think you should be open better have to tell her you are on the pill, etc, than you have a grandchild on the way (gather you are still young)
also, last words of wisdom (?) dont let yourself get pressured into anything (gather you have a boyf already?). sex brings a whole new set of experences and worries (and lots of fun) into your life...
take care

My mom suggested I get on it at 21 - after months of dating a 35 yr. old guy when I was only 20. She knew it was happening and just said, "Get on the pill." I've been on it since and I'm 28 and married now. My mom is just cool - she is one of the great ones!

I was too embarrassed to tell my mom so I got the pills behind her back. She found them one day in my drawer though... and before I could say a word she told me she was disappointed I didn't go to her but she was proud of me for being responsible enough to get them.
Talk to your mom. It may not be as bad as you think. Good luck!

if u have a close relationship with your mom then you just sit down and talk to her. that is a big step and she might be happy that you came to her before you did something crazy like get pregnant. it shows that you are responsible and know the the consequences of your actions.

Why do you need to tell her? If you're old enough to have sex, you are old enough to go get birth control without your mom.

Health Depts have a privacy agreement. They can't say anything to anyone with out you knowing. And it should only be like a dollar or free.
