Pamela is correct. You can use test strips (sold at pool stores) to test the water yourself. Check with the local pool store for advice and chemicals.

You have to keep cholorine in it and have proper filteration. The PH has to be stable in order to keep the chlorine in it. You need to take a water sample to a pool place and let them tell you what you need to maintain it. It's a pain in the butt to get the PH and free chlorine right once it's screwed up.
