How am I forcing my belief on anyone. I never at any time said that anyone had to believe that. As for Dr. Feelgood's example well I would respect his love for his country and give him a hand shake and a pat on the back and congradulate him on his loyality. I wouldn't call him arrogant or feel he was trying to force that oppinion on me. It would only be forcing if I said America is the best country in the world and you have to believe it too.

Because honey that is a very arrogant statement to make. It is ok if you believe that IF you have travelled around the world and lived in other countries. Then you can make a valid argument based on your experiences. Right now you are just making a cross the board statement based on what you think you know about other countries. See?

Very well said Ethan M! I could not agree more. We really are the good guys but a lot of people just can't or don't want to see it. We have done more good for more people all over the globe by ourselves than everone else combined. The United States is the very best country in the world and I am proud to stand up and salute our flag and the men and women serving our country so we can be free. If that is arrogant, I guess WE BOTH ARE!

We had a king. We fought a war for independence and won, but we had a king.
Everyone has reasons to think their country is the best one in the world. I'm proud that I am an American, but I could think of a few scenarios that would make me trade it in. You seem to have a very rosy view of what America is. You can't have only the good. You HAVE to include our past as the largest slaveholding nation in the world, our oppression of racial minorities. We may have defeated Hitler, but we didn't help stop him from murdering 6 million Jews. We also confined over 100,000 Japanese Americans (most of whom were US citizens and had no connection to Imperial Japan) to internment camps during WW2. We systematically murdered Native Americans to get the land we held desirable.
We did nothing to stop genocide in Cambodia, Kosovo, Rwanda, East Timor and Darfur. This, after we promised the world it would never happen again.
Have you been anyplace to compare it too? Even, simply, other English speaking nations like the UK, Canada, or Australia? There is a difference between patriotism (love of country and willingness to sacrifice for it) and nationalism (a belief that one's nation and its interests are of primary importance). One of them is what leads to Imperial Japan, Nazi Germany, Soviet Russia, and hardline Islamic governments.
" I love America more than any other country in this world, and, exactly for this reason, I insist on the right to criticize her perpetually."

Um, maybe because that's a slightly arrogant thing to say?
The US has invaded, interceeded, supplied weapons to, or has overthrown governments of:
Honduras
Cuba
Puerto Rico
Guam
Samoa
Iran
Vietnam
Panama
Mexico
Lebanon
Cambodia
Oman
Laos
Chile
Angola
Nicaragua
Grenada
El Salvador
Philippines
Columbia
Afganistan
Iraq
The US has done much good throughout the world, befiting it's status as a world "superpower". It's used that status for less than noble reasons as well. Be proud to be a citizen of the US, but don't pretend that it's never done evil in the world, or even to it's own citizens.

The United States is a great country due to its propaganda which attracts a lot of legal immigrants and illegal immigrants alike. If we were to portray the truth that the majority of immigrants will get the crappiest jobs due to their lack of language, and live in garbage-can like conditions because they can't afford a better place to live, do you still think people will be flooding into our country?
America is not evil, except you only have a textbook, media censored view of America.

Your argument implies that we are the best because we are the least evil. While we certainly aren't the most evil, we would be hard pressed to show we are the least. So deciding if we are the best should be left to someone other than ourselves who could perhaps make a more objective comparison between or among other relatively non-evil entities.

Because you're trying to force your opinion onto others. What if a Japanese person told you that their country was the best. It's like two school kid arguing with one another saying that their Dad is better than the others.

Actually I think Japan tops America in educated people. I don't think you are arrogant, just patriotic. We do have a great country, but I think we have far to go, and much to learn.
