If a guy is carrying one of those, it is okay if it accessorizes with his skirt and nail polish.

I think it depends on the bag. If the bag looks like something a woman would carry, then it's probably not the best idea to wear it. Make sure your bag looks "manly" and isn't small like a purse.
If you really have that much stuff to carry there isn't anything wrong with it. Briefcases are less comfortable than a messenger type bag anyway. I wouldn't worry about it if I were you - so many men are now under the metrosexual category no one will even notice you carrying a man purse.

I think that for starters the name 'man' purse is the first dodgy thing about this whole scenario. Women carry a purse not men so maybe a name such as the 'I don't know I'm gay yet' purse might be a more truthful option. On the other hand, you are clearly already suffering from an insecurity complex if you actually care what anyone else thinks. My advice? Grow up and be a man.

Before I got married to my husband, he carried a fanny pack - it had to goooooooooo!
So he switched to a man-purse - he likes to carry a lot of crap with him at all times - a hairbrush, eye drops, check book and such.
I finally found something that looks pretty cool - remember a few years ago when the backpacks all of a sudden became a one shoulder sacks?
Well, I found a man-purse in leather that has a similar design - it goes over the head and rests on one shoulder across his back and chest. It has a cell phone pocket, so he can easily access his phone.
It is actually pretty cool.
And I don't think it's gay - what are guys supposed to do with all the necessary stuff they need to carry?
Briefcases are so cumbersome and you have to hold them, which leaves you with only one hand for everything else.
It's time we cut guys some slack and stopped worrying about the gay thing - it only matters what you really are, not what someone else says.

Don't do it dude! Get a laptop bag/portfolio if you don't want to lug around a briefcase. Just don't get a man purse. It's not like in the old days where men wore hose, pointy shoes, and ruffles. The only time you should have anything even remotely resembling a purse, is a "coin-purse" and only then if you're going to a rennaisance faire!

i would not carry a purse or shoulder bag. if formal, i would do a briefcase. if casual (and you need a bag of some sort) a backpack would do. men's clothes are designed with more pockets than women's. i understand some jobs require a carrier, but i would not do a man-purse.

A definite faux pas if it's smaller than a messenger bag, otherwise it just looks like you have books for school or a laptop.

I think they are VERY practical and that you are very secure about your manhood to carry one. Beats carrying a big old lunky briefcase for just a few things.... or dropping everything because you're trying to carry too much in your hands.
