Sure you could disconnect it, assuming it has it's own belt, which it probably doesn't have. I'd bet it's a serpentine belt driving all the accessory devices. If you can disconnect the pump, drain the hydraulic lines to make it easier so you aren't having to fight against the fluid.

Well you can remove the drive belt, assuming the pump is on it's own belt. If the bearing is bad leaving it in lpace will just cause it to fail worse and proably break a belt. You shodlnt' have any problems running without the poer steering pump. Just a little more work.

Driving a car with power steering when it does not work is MUCH harder than driving a car that never had power steering because you are pushing against the hydraulics. You might follow the other advice and take the belt off Unless it is a serpentine and see if you can actually steer the thing.

If it has it's own belt then yeah tear it right out. It'll be hard to steer but you'll get used to it and develop strong arms in the process. If it has a uniibelt then you cant because you need that pulley in place.

The best thing to do is to disconnect it until you get it fixed. And nothing bad probably won't happen if your careful. Yes every thing should be OK just get it fixed.

i take it you've never driven a car without p/s? makes cornering and parking a little tough aside from the chance of damaging the gearbox...........
