for two reasons:
1) if u live in a built up/urban area the street lights stop u from seeing the stars as the light reflects on the earths atmosphere and all you see is street lights,
2) the blue during the day is a reflection of the sea. The sun must have completely disappeared and there must be no sun anywhere 4 u 2 see the stars else the reflection from the sea will stop u from seeing the stars.

I think you will find that the light from our sun is a lot brighter than from the stars, also you have light reflecting off the surface of the earth back up and dust and polution in the atmosphere will scatter sunlight. When you look at the sky at dawn or dusk before or after the sun comes above the horizon you can see one or two of the brightest stars.

Just wait. If there is a lot of light pollution then you will see only the brightest ones. You see more out of the city.

Perhaps you have so much ambient light from the city around you that it blocks out the starlight. All that ambient light is reflecting around in the atmosphere, blotting out the stars.

The sun can't be out. If the sun reflects off anything then you can't see the stars.

Probably smog or light pollution. The refraction of light in the atmosphere plays its part too.
