Today, for the first time ever, I have been experiencing sharp shooting pains in my jaw area, directly below my right ear. I know that I need to schedule a doctors appointment to get this checked out, but does anyone have an idea of what could be the cause of this? Like I said, its a sharp shooting pain that doesn't last too long, but when it happens, its not a pleasant feeling. Thanks for any help!

Thanks for the quick responses. I'm 27 now and had an X-ray done when I was about 20 that showed I was born without wisdom teeth. So luckily I never had to have them removed because according to my dentist, they were never there to begin with.

Do you grind your teeth at night? Grinding your teeth over long periods of time can wear out your jaw joints and cause pain. Visit your dentist.
