Leading is showing the way by going first.
Example- A leader is a person ahead of the pack, someone that everyone else is responsible to, someone who is in charge of all the little followers.
Following literally means-"to adhere to; to take as a model or precedent; imitate."

Didn't you ever play "follow the leader" when you were a kid??
That explains the definition perfectly.

If you are beautiful girl, then when you walk in market, if people are coming behind you, then you are leading them (god knows where), whereas if you are among the hoard of people behind that beautiful beau, then you are definitely following her (hopefully for something good).

I hope this makes it better now!!!!
