I suddenly can't connect to the internet, but I check everything,
and everything is fine. here are the details: my brother and I share the same high speed connection using a router, one day I open the computer trying to go online, it just won't connect, my brother's computer is fine, then I connect the modem to directly to my computer(thinking that the router is the problem), didn't solve the problem........ any suggestions

Do multiple spyware scans, reload browser software, clean out your registry, maybe check for updates on your drivers, there are many things that are possible... Have you tried using other avenues to access the net? Such as update drivers...

Check to see who is administator and if your computer is enabled access...

The possibilities are unlimited as to what may be your problem. You assigned each computer an address on the router so that would be the most logical thing to check and see what you have changed. You can always use system restore if you are using windows xp and roll back the changes you made prior to the problem occurring but other then that you are on your own because without knowing what you have in front of you I could guess until eternity and for 2 points it isn't worth my time. Try giving router type and who you are using as well as operating system it helps to know what you have.

Just follow the rule of thumb for all computer problems: when in doubt, reset.

turn off your computer, turn off your brother's computer and unplug the modem and router. Wait 20 seconds, then plug in the modem...wait for all the lights to come on, then plug in the router and wait for all the lights. Then turn on the computers and the problem should be solved.

Sometimes, the IP addresses need to be reset to re-connect to the internet. Hope this works for you!

There is no option you can use, other than tapping off a neighbors house with a wireless card, that your parents can not defeat. If you were to install a wireless card on your computer, to access the internet on your system. They only need to switch the router to MAC address security, and they can lock you out, even if you have the security code for the router. They do this by restricting the machine address for your computer from logging on to the router. If a neighbor has wireless and was dumb enough to not set up the security service, you can log on to the internet through their router, using a wireless adapter. This is of course a crap shoot, as they can turn on the security setting at any time, and you will be locked out. And if your parents find out your have done this, they can always just take away the computer.

1. Does the light on your network card light up (or on router)?
2. Does windows_my network places_view network connections show any unplugged cables?
3. repair connection.
4. Run net work connection wizard.
5. reinstall network card drivers
6. Replace network card (add if integrated)

If the above is all done/true, internet should work. If not, have someone knowledgable look at it. This is really hard to diagnose from here.

Check all programs again .. messengers and things like that. Run through your firewall and see if anything is blocked. Make sure your browser is alowed through the firewall. Trying going to Network Connections and right click on your network and click repair. If all else fails, set up a new connection.

I don't know. Just shut it down and unplug it for a short while, and then try again.
