snorkeling. That's it. But that's a lot of fun.
Oh and boozing it up on $8 drinks. Shopping is lame. Restaurants are mediocre. Water tastes like it's desalinated, which it is.
There is a road into the steep, treeless, and tiresome interior - but you can't take the rental golf carts there.
The best parts of Catalina are accessible by boat. If you are sailing there, however, remember to line up your anchorage at Avalon well ahead of time.

You can go snorkling and scuba diving and ride bikes across the island, there are nice restaurants and some shops and you could rent a golf cart. There is an old casino turned into an art museum. You can take a tour through the old wrigley mansion. I would definately go swimming, the water is so beautiful. Oh and you can see the flying fish that come out at night. And there is a golf course if you like to golf, and there are lots of bars.

There is snokeling, scuba diving (if you're certified), glass bottom boat, bike rentals, another boat tour that goes out in the evening to see the flying fish, kayaking, parasailing, just lounging around on the beach, lots of restaurants and little bars, etc. It's a great place to spend a weekend.
