Haven't used it in years. Now it's rusty. It's a really good wok. I'd like to rescue it if I can.

How do I get the rust off but still have it safe for foods.

I would never use any chemical on anything you prepare food with. It's going to take a lot of elbow grease and steel wool.

Get the pan and steel wool wet and scrub, scrub, scrub. Rinse in between scrubbing to get rid of any debris. When you get rid of all the rust, coat with cooking oil and set it on top of the stove and turn the flame up to medium. Let the oil heat up and when the wok is good and hot, turn off the heat and let the wok cool down. Wipe out the oil with a paper towel and you should be good to go.

Julie 6962 had the right idea. I've done exactly same. It is called curing the wok. It worked and never use chemicals on something you will eat from. Residue stay even though you wash article.

eHow (fast becoming one of my favorite sites) has a tip about using a potato & salt - check first link below. They also mention aluminum foil & cola (scary) -- 2nd link. Good luck.
