I want to start writing, but I'm not sure how to start. I've been told writing in the narrative is easy, but need some guidance.

First choose a topic you are really interested in, and avoid writing to please others (which means don't write thinking others may like it or not, just write about what you like, and in the style you feel more comfortable). Then, in a short paragraph (forget about grammatical rules and all that) write the plot, or what is going to happen at least in the first half of the story, since stories might change or evolve as you write them. Set the main characters, and what kind of personality they have. After you got that in mind, locate the characters in a place, in a certain season, and any other feature that helps you materialize your ideas. Then write a first draft, just write it without paying attention to grammar or punctuation, just write as much as you can, like brainstorming.. Then after you are happy with what you wrote, start fixing details, like incongruences in the plot, or mistakes in the time or place of things, and grammar. Remember always to start with simple short stories and them developing deeper, more complex plots and narrations. And always keep in mind that you are writing to entertain yourself and others, dont get stressed over it.

The fear of having the "start at the beginning" can paralize us into not writing. Start the story any way you want, anywhere you want. You can change it later and you can improve it. Someone mentioned starting "Once upon a time" in jest, but that's a fine way to start (it can work, though I'd recommend changing it later). Just start, just write.

Good luck and happy writing!

just start telliing a story pretend like your talking to your best girlfriend on the phone about anything including the guy you scoping at the mall later go back and change it to proper english, but thats what I would do just tell a story like your talking on the phone thats why its easy to write a narrative, because thats what we do all the time its just normally not on paper or with proper gramer hope that helps.

Write in the first person (I was curious, I...) Write it as though you are having a conversation with someone you want to tell a story.
Check out this Web site; it is really helpful.
