Went last year. Everyone should go once. Stayed in Hill City, about 1/2 hour away from Sturgis - still felt right in the center of things. Rode my Goldwing - unbelievable how many bikes are trailered in!
Two sides to Sturgis:
Daytime: Big accessory show in town, lots of beautiful rides in the area.
Nightime: Beer and bawdyness
Next time, I'll go back because I love the area, but I'll avoid going during the rally.
BTW: GREAT BBQ place in Hill City!

I'm going from CO to Sturgis on 8/5. It's the greatest party on earth, amazing riding, great people, custom builders, vendors, etc. Like everything in life, it is what you make it. With almost a million bikers that attend, there are tons of people/bikes but that's what it's all about. People come from all over. I'm traveling with a couple of guys from Russia who are renting Harley's just for the rally. This will be my 5th year & love it!
p.s. 40's is not old! You are just starting life, esp. if riding a Harley! Find a good woman that likes to ride & it's all uphill!!

Never wanted to go that far to stand cheek and jowl with that many strangers.
Even less of a desire after they let the politician get away with killing the biker. SD will never see a dime of my money.

i would love to go but being i live in england taking my bike would be very expensive but one day i will go!!!!!!!
