What is 80% of 12,505.43?

I and someone else are having a dispute over a a matter of the "rounding off" of 80% of 12,505.43 So far all u guys out there...how would you answer it!

80% equals 80/100 times 12,505.43

which equals 10004.344 BUT the rules of rounding indicate you cannot have more than two significant numbers to the RIGHT of the decimal because you only have two numbers to the right already in your base numbers. ==> 10,004.34

If your original number was 12,505.430 then your answer would be 10,004.344. If your original number was 12,505.4 then your answer would be 10,004.3.

I was taught that the answer should have the same degree of accuracy as the least accurate number being used. Here, I would say 80%=0.80, acurate to two decimal places. 12505.43 is also accurate to two decimal places. Using this method, the answer would be 10000.34, accurate to two decimal places.

10004.344 is the exact answer so i would say 10,004.34 as you're supposed to round down as the number in the 3rd decimal place is below 5.

I would divide by 10, which makes 1250.543. Then multiply that by 8 which equals 10,004.344.
It isn't the most elegant solution, but it is easy to follow.
